Artist of the month (May)

tori keith making jewelry

Tori Keith, Usona Rocks & Jewelry

Tori is a Mariposa native, born at the local JCF Hospital. Her interest in jewelry-making started when she was about 10, doing beadwork. But what inspired her interest in using her hands to create, came from experiences with her family.

Tori initially lived on her family's farm on Usona Road, next to the farm of her mom’s parents. At a very young age, she watched her grandfather do repairs and make things to use on the farm. Her millions of questions were patiently answered and explained as he worked.

When she was 8 years old, Tori’s father left the family and her mother became ill. Tori went to live with her aunt and uncle in La Puente, CA for awhile. While there, she got hands-on experience in the family electronic repair shop. After school she would help clean and repair clocks, electric razors, toasters, etc.

After Tori returned to her live with her mom, they moved to Merced to live with her father’s mother. Her grandma had a business machine repair shop and, as before, Tori jumped in to help and learn. She mostly cleaned typewriters and 10-key adding machines, and changed typing ribbons. Tori was about 9 or 10 years old.

Her love of working with her hands drove her to take various shop classes in high school and college. She also taught herself to use a loom. Tori is also a member of the Mariposa Gem and Mineral Club.

Our Members

Made in Mariposa (MiM) is a collective of local producers offering various goods, products, and art from shops in Mariposa, CA. These mariposa stores reflect the unique creativity and craftsmanship found in this charming town.

Three graphic t-shirts and a 'Mariposa Strong' tote bag displayed on hangers and a shelf.

Our History

MiM was created in 2016 with the assistance of a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Initially, MiM was managed by the Mariposa Chamber of Commerce and was situated at the Visitors Center, one of the popular mariposa ca stores. In 2022, members of MiM took over management and established it as a 501(c)3 nonprofit. In May 2023, the MiM store relocated to its current location and is now staffed by unpaid volunteers, contributing to the diverse selection of mariposa shops and mariposa stores available in the area.
